    As the Principal of the High School it is my charge to prepare our young adults for success in life. Success in life is predicated by having certain skills and having the opportunity to use the skills learned in making decisions. At Niagara Wheatfield High School our students learn that there are 4 Pillars or cornerstones to being a successful student.
    The 4 Pillars are:
           1.   Academic Success - Doing your absolute best in school
           2.   Respect - Showing regard for yourself, peers, adults and your country
           3.   Responsibility - Knowing what is expected of you and then doing it
           4.   Empathy - Understanding one another's feelings and beliefs 

     Niagara Wheatfield High School will be administering NYS Regents and local Mid-Term examinations for all students in Core Academic classes this year.  These exams will be held during the NYS scheduled Regents Exam week, January 22 - 26, 2018.  Please click on the links below for the examination schedule and bus request form if your child needs transportation to school for a mid-day/afternoon exam.
    Dear Niagara Wheatfield Families:
    At this time of year it is a good idea to talk with your children about cold weather safety.  Extra care is needed, especially in younger children, to be sure that frostbite does not occur.
    • It is important to check your children's, even teen's, outerwear every day during extreme weather conditions.  Warm jackets, hats, scarves, warm socks, boots, and an extra pair of dry gloves in their pockets will protect them during extremely cold temperatures.  
    • Develop an emergency plan and teach your children your emergency play in case you are not home before the bus comes to pick them up.  If a bus is delayed, they need to know where, when, and how to get help if they think they are waiting outside for a bus longer than they should or if they sense danger.  Tell your child that if you are not home while they are waiting outside for the bus, how long they may wait outside, where to go in the event the bus is delayed, and the dangers and risks of extreme weather.

    Explain danger signs and risks of when to seek help:

    • the child gets cold or wet, especially boots or gloves.
    • the child feels pain or numbness anywhere especially hands, feet, ears, or nose.
    • the child senses they have waited longer than five minutes when you have alerted them temperatures have dipped into the teens, specially on a windy day.
    • the child thinks they may have frostbite which behaves like a burn and requires medical attention.

    Teach your child about your cold weather plan even if you are not there to help them.  Be sure they know:

    • when to ask for help.
    • where to find safe shelter in an emergency, and 
    • how to protect themselves with proper winter clothing and an understanding of danger signs.

    Attendance Office Update

    Dear Niagara Wheatfield Families,

    We are pleased to announce the NWCSD will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in each of our schools to building on the district's program of campus safety for students and staff.  Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our building at all times and the Raptor System will allow us to do this by tracking guests, contractors, and volunteers in our schools, while providing us with a safer environment for our students and staff.

    Upon entering one of our district schools, guests will be asked to scan their valid state-issued ID.  Raptor will record the name, birthdate, photo, and the last four digits of the driver's license number - checking against public, nationwide state sex offender registries.  This information will remain in a secure file and no additional visitor data from the ID will be scanned or recorded.  Raptor does not read data from, or otherwise communicate with any other system (such as the Department of Motor Vehicles.)

    Once entry is approved, Raptor will issue a badge that identifies the visitor name and photo, the date, and the purpose of the visit.  Appropriate accommodations will be made for guests who do not provide scannable identification.  A visitor's badge will not be necessary for those who visit our schools simply to drop off an item or pick up paperwork from the check-in counter.

    Raptor FAQ For Guests

    1. What is Raptor?  Raptor is a visitor registration system used by over 18,000 schools nationwide that enhances school security by comparing guest's drivers' licenses against state sex offender databases nationwide, alerting school administrations if a match is found, and printing temporary badges for approved guests.
    2. During what hours will I have to sign in and have my ID scanned?  During each school's regular instructional hours.
    3. Which guests must have their ID scanned?  Guests 18 and older who wish to enter the building beyond the greeting area must have their ID scanned.
    4. Must children sign in?  Visiting children of ages 13-17 must have their information entered into the Raptor system, and wear guest badges during their visit.  Visiting children 12 and younger will simply be recorded in the Notes field and need not have their information entered or wear a badge during their visit.
    5. If I am simply dropping something off or relay a message, must my ID be scanned?  No.  Only guests who wish to enter the building beyond the greeting area must have their ID scanned.
    6. If I am a frequent guest, must my ID be scanned very time?  No.  Your information from previous visits can be pulled up upon visual identification without rescanning your ID card.
    7. May I use my own school or company's photo ID badge?  Guests who are in our building on behalf of another organization (vendors, student teachers, substitute teachers, visiting teachers, and so forth) may display their organization's photo badge while in the building, rather than the provided temporary guest badge.
    8. Why is Raptor scanning my name, birthdate, and last four of my license number?  Three points of identification are needed to eliminate the chances of false matches based on name and birthdate alone.
    9. Why is my photo scanned?  Printing a guest's photo on the temporary badges provides an extra level of security.
    10. Is this information stored?  Yes.  Just as in the past with physical sign-in sheets, all guest records are retained for security purposes.
    11. Who can see the stored data?  Only administrators may view guest's data.
    12. Must I sign out at the end of my visit.  Yes.
    13. If I visit multiple school buildings on the same day, will my ID have to be scanned?  Yes.  And you will receive a new badge, unless you are in our building on behalf of another organization in which case you may display your organization's photo badge while in the building, rather than the provided temporary guest badge.
    14. What if I don't present an ID?  You will be welcome to remain in the geeting area and relay any messages via the building clerical.  If you wish,  building administrator may be contacted to make a determination in extenuating situations when a guest does not provide an ID to be scanned.
