Mary L. Bruce Library Media Center

Our Goals and Mission

The Library Media Center is at the core of the school community,
regarded as the primary source of information for students and the
center of the learning process.  It is common to all grades, subjects,
students, faculty, and staff. Our mission is to ensure that students are
are provided the opportunity and resources to become informed citizens
 and lifelong learners.

Our goal is to provide a user-centered program to encourage
students to become effective users of ideas and information,
enthusiastic and proficient readers, and self-motivated learners
capable of working cooperatively with others and able to utilize critical
thinking skills to solve problems.

New York State Standards

New York State Standards require all students be able to locate
information in a variety of formats, present information and
demonstrate knowledge making cross-curricular connections.
Standards indicate that students be able to locate, organize,
compare, present, synthesize, interpret, analyze, and demonstrate
knowledge and information.

Through collaboration with classroom teachers and research skills
instruction, information literacy strategies are integrated throughout the curriculum,
in accordance with the New York State and ALA Standards.
